Healthy and Realistic Weight Loss Tips

Sensible goals and expectations are keys to healthy and realistic weight loss. Many people are not committed to giving up their unhealthy habits; they want a magic pill in order to allow them to continue eating junk food and still lose weight.

Losing weight is not just important to how you feel about your appearance, it is important to your health as well. Losing one or two pounds per week is the ideal weight loss when you are looking to lose weight and keep it off. Changing many of your unhealthy food choices will go a long way in helping you to achieve your goals.

Exercise is Important!

Exercise is an important element in losing weight in a healthy and realistic way. Exercising regularly benefits you in a number of ways. Your health will improve, your energy levels will increase and one of the best benefits is that you will look great and fit into those clothes you have been eying in the window. Exercise builds muscle mass which in turn makes your body work harder and burn more calories.

Clean Out Your Cabinets

The first thing you should do when you begin a weight loss program is to clean out cabinets. Get rid of all the unhealthy foods and snacks that may be lurking behind corners. Check your refrigerator too. Instead of cookies, provide pretzels as a snack. Get rid of fatty potato chips and switch to fat free popcorn. Get rid of mayonnaise and replace with mustard. Instead of a roll, Italian bread or white bread substitute whole grain breads. No more sugary cereals. Eat oatmeal or high fiber cereals adding some fruit for flavor and covering with skim or low fat milk.

No more fast food. Fast food is one of the biggest no-no’s when you are looking to lose weight. A single meal in a fast food restaurant can use up all your calories for the day. Make healthy choices when going out to eat. Instead of getting a heavy pasta dish, choose fresh grilled fish and steamed vegetables with a salad.

Make a point of reading food labels. You will be surprised at how many unhealthy ingredients are hiding in your food. Check for carbohydrates, Trans fat, saturated fat and sodium. If there are too many ingredients that you can’t pronounce then put it back on the shelf. Forget hotdogs and luncheon meats. Choose instead chicken breast and store made turkey for lunch.

Be Realistic

Not everyone can be a size 2 and if your body isn’t petite this goal can be unrealistic. Instead focus on why you want to lose weight. Keep yourself motivated by finding a diet or an exercise buddy. Exercise can be simply a brisk walk for 30-40 minutes after your evening meal. Once you begin to lose weight your motivation will soar and you will want to keep up the good work. Fad diets and quick fixes are not the way to a body that is sleek and healthy, only real lifestyle changes can bring about weight loss solutions that will last a lifetime.
